Before-tax figures: hourly rate × 2,080 hours. After-tax: our calculation with 2026 IRS brackets and standard deduction, the SSA 2026 wage base, and no state income tax (Texas). Federal minimum wage: U.S. Department of Labor.

Common questions

How do you convert an hourly wage to a yearly salary?

Multiply the hourly rate by the hours you work in a year. Full time is usually 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, so $20 an hour is $41,600 a year. A quick shortcut: double the hourly rate and add three zeros ($20 → about $40,000).

How do you convert a salary to an hourly rate?

Divide the yearly salary by 2,080 for a 40-hour week. $50,000 a year is about $24.04 an hour.

What is the federal minimum wage?

$7.25 an hour, per the U.S. Department of Labor, or $15,080 a year full time. Many states and cities set a higher minimum.

Does paid vacation change the math?

Not for a salaried job or a paid holiday: you are paid for all 52 weeks. If you are paid hourly and take unpaid time off, multiply by the weeks you actually work instead, for example 50.
